What Kind Of Friends Should We Keep…!!
1-Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: “A
person is likely to follow the faith of his friend, so look whom
you befriend.[ Abu Dawood and at-Tirmithi]
2- Don’t be friend with someone who abuse others The
Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) was not one who
would abuse (others) or say obscene words, or curse (others)
…” (Bukhaari)
The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: “The
inmates of Hell are of five types….” And among them he
mentioned “…the miser, the liar and those who are in the habit
of abusing people and using obscene and foul
language.” (Muslim)
3-Ali (raa) said: “Mix with the noble people, you become one
of them; and keep away from evil people to protect yourself
from their evils.”[ Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
4-Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A) said: "Do not befriend a sinner
(Fasiq/Fajir) because he will sell you for a morsel.
5-Person should be the same outside as he is inside. In other
words, he should not have a dual personality. (In this age
however, we often come across people who are exceptionally
humble and modest on the outside, with little, if any humility,
on the inside).
6- Imam Jafar Sadiq (R.A) also remarks, "My best friend is
the one who gifts me my weaknesses and shortcomings." In
other words one who brings to your notice your defects and
flaws is indeed your true friend.
7- Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (r.a) said: "A friend cannot be
considered a friend unless he is tested on three occasions: in
time of need, behind your back and after your death."
8- Never befriend a miser (Bakheel/

Kanjus). For in your time
of need and distress, he will withhold his wealth from you,
while he is in a position to assist you. (He values his wealth
more than anything else. And to that end he is prepared to
forsake even his friends)
9- Don't befriend a liar (Kadhib). For a liar is like a mirage.
He shows the distant as near and the near as distant. He will
always deceive you and trouble you.
10- Don’t be friend with someone who use foul language, talk
about others in front of you, constantly blaming and say bad
things about others Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam)
said: “The believer is not a slanderer, one who curses a great
deal, one who indulges in obscenity or who in engages in foul
talk.” (Tirmidhi– saheeh by al-Albaani). A person who talk
bad about others infront of you can also talk bad about you
infront of others so advice them make dua for them and keep
away from their company. May Allah guide us to recognize
the true friends and bless us with good friends Ameen
